Mohican Medicine for the Winter Months
January 18 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree
The Bidwell House Museum is excited to present our 3rd annual winter Zoom lecture series! The topic for the lectures in 2023 will be life in winter for the early residents of the Berkshires. There will be one lecture each in January, February and March.
In this first lecture we will be joined by Misty Cook, a member of the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of the Mohicans, who will discuss the history of Medicines throughout the Tribe and will focus on #6 Wild Bergamot, Mullein, and Sumac. She will also talk about gathering, drying and preserving herbs and will discuss the usage of herbs through stories of the Tribe.
Misty Cook (Davids) MS has studied herbal medicines in depth, including plant identification; gathering and drying methods throughout the year; and preservation techniques. She is the author of Medicine Generations: Natural Native American Medicines Traditional to the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans Tribe. Misty is also a cultural consultant with a Master’s degree in Management and provides diversity training on many topics including Native American students in education, Native American history, Native American games and herbal medicines.
This lecture will be presented via Zoom and will not be recorded. Attendees will receive a Zoom link reminder 2-3 days in advance of the lecture.
