Welcome to the 2019 Bidwell Country Fair Pie Baking Contest!

CONGRATULATIONS to the winners of our Bidwell Country Fair Pie Baking Contest last weekend!  Our judges had a great time tasting all of the delicious entries.  And the winners were:

1st place: Ilana Pergam’s Paprika Peach Pie

2nd place: Isabella & Ben’s Blueberry/Lemon Pie

3rd place: Mary &Marya Makuc’s Pecan Maple Pie

3rd place: Annabel Previdi’s Blueberry/Strawberry American Flag Pie (under 16 category)

 

Our Judges

Michele Miller of Bola Granola

Michele has been passionate about food her whole life and has been cooking professionally for over 40 years.  In 2008 she opened Bola Granola, the much beloved local Granola brand that has an international following.

Rachel Portnoy

Rachel has spent over 20 years in the fine-dining industry.  In 2002 Rachel and her husband Franck Tessier opened Cakewalk Bakery in Lee.  After selling Cakewalk they opened popular local restaurant Chez Nous, also in Lee, where they focus on fresh, handmade, and delicious meals and desserts.

Clayton Hambrick

Clayton has been a chef since and the 1970’s and was a co-owner of the Church Street Cafe in Lenox where he cooked for almost 30 years.

The Rules

-Round Pies must have home-made fillings, from scratch, by the contestant. No pre-made pie crust or no store-bought pies. Pies with dairy or cream must be kept cool.

-The Contest is open to the public and will have three categories; Sweet, Savory or Baker 16 & Under

-Only one pie per person with no more than two pies per family

-The name of the baker must be taped on the bottom of the pie plate with telephone number (masking tape works best).

-Pies will only be accepted from 1-2 pm. Judging will start at 2 pm

-Prizes will be given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category.

-After the contest the pies will be cut and sold as a fundraiser for the Bidwell House Museum.

Pies will be judged on:

-Appearance

-Flavor

-Quality and consistency of the crust

-Creativity
