Mass. Quilt Documentation #2062 Bidwell acquisition # 208002 |
Believed to be a
Colonial Revival Era quilt, it was most likely made between 1920 and 1940.
White on white it is 87 3/4" x 86 1/2" with a patriotic design closely
quilted at 14 stitches to the inch. Both front and back are plain white
cotton, the piecing of the 33" widths of the front and back being oriented
at 90 degrees from each other. There is a thin cotton batting and the
quilt is bound with straight applied, basket weave (double warp) cotton
tape. |
 |
The predominant central motif
is an eagle holding a ribbon with the words "E Pluribus Unum".
In very good condition, there are some scattered rust colored stains on
the back and some areas of yellowing.
