Whole Cloth Glazed Quilt

Massachusetts Quilt Documentation #2059

Estimated to have been made between 1810 and 1840

Whole-cloth bed quilt 83" x 92" made from 24 1/2" widths of plain woven, glazed green worsted tammy.  The thin batting is wool and the backing is  made from three pieces of golden yellow wool.

The quilt is structurally sound but only in fair condition having many scattered holes on the back, with one large patch and some color loss in spots on the front.

Hand quilted at 8 stitches to the inch, the border motif is a stylized floral vine (reverse curved); two similar vertical vines are inside the border, with a stylized floral spray in the center and parallel lines in the background. The glazed wool binding is somewhat uneven and applied front to back.
