Dark Blue Whole Cloth Quilt

Dark blue, whole-cloth twill-woven worsted bed quilt with a glazed surface estimated to have been made between 1775 and 1825.

The batting is of thin wool and there is no binding. Holes on the back of the quilt, which is made from golden-yellow wool, have been beautifully darned with matching yarn. The quilt, 94" wide by 102" long, is structurally sound and in excellent condition.

Hand quilted with about 8 stitches per inch, the pattern has seven undulating, stylized vines throughout the length of the quilt. The central vine emanates from a pineapple-like design with a heart in the center. (See quilting details below)
