Many soldiers who fought in the American Revolution were farmers.  Sometimes, the farmer's families would travel along to care for them, following the battles and living in camps. Today, this part of our history is authentically reenacted by groups of people throughout the country.
With the help of members of the Department of American Revolutionary War Interpretation, a division of the Living History Association, The Bidwell House hosted the first 18th CENTURY ENCAMPMENT which truly brought to life this aspect of our history and it proved to be a great success.
The Bidwell House event involved about 50 men, women and children, representing the 25th Regiment of American blue coats, His Majesty's 24th Regiment of Foot, and Saint Peter's Corp - The Queen's Loyal Rangers. These people camped all weekend surrounding The Bidwell House with 18th century wedge and wall tents.
The participants were outfitted in authentically reproduced period clothing, uniforms and accoutrements, as well as camping equipment.
Visitors wandered through the campsites, talking with the interpreters and getting a close-up look. There were uniform and clothing presentations and battle skirmishes throughout the weekend.
